WESTBIC - the official EU Business & Innovation Centre in the Border, Midland and Western region; is a specialist provider in the Government’s portfolio of supports to indigenous industry delivered through the Productive Sector Operational Programme of the National Development Plan 2000-2006. WESTBIC is an ISO accredited organisation providing tailored support to innovative enterprises and community development projects from initial concept stage right through to commercialisation and post-launch stages. Established in 1987, WESTBIC operates from its regional offices located in, Galway, Tuam, Kilcar, Letterkenny, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon and the Midland region, providing direct on the ground support to entrepreneurs, enterprises, support organisations, intermediaries and community groups.

A diverse range of development services are provided to core projects, intermediaries and community organisations which can be categorised as follows: · Support for business clients aimed at developing innovative enterprise (Start-up and Early Stage enterprise including training, feasibility study assistance, market research and marketing planning, business planning, business development advice/counselling and sourcing of finance) · Delivery of additional services aimed at improving the competitiveness and innovativeness of companies through participation in suitable EU projects with trans-national partners · Technical assistance to intermediaries in the region aimed at fostering and supporting innovation including action planning, programme identification, project conceptualisation, application assistance, search for partners project implementation and evaluation assignments · Tailored training services including idea generation and development workshops, entrepreneurial training, business planning and community development modules · Support for entrepreneurship and innovation through the Third Level sector · Support for incubation space development throughout the region and animation of the development process, technical support in project delivery etc. · Support for Social Economy and Community Development projects that add value to their regions |

The organisation has established itself as a unique resource for enterprise creation and promotion of innovation across a range of industry sectors, as well as business and community development activities through a process of co-operation, integration and networking with existing State Agencies, other intermediaries and community organisations throughout the region, which has been key to the success of the WESTBIC model of service delivery. The WESTBIC office in Tuam is partnered by ‘Action Tuam’ Community Group. Service is provided on a clinic basis from the Enterprise Centre in Tuam Business Park.
